My personal favorite sugar cookie recipe. One passed down from my Mom. Growing up, we had these with sesame seeds or plain sugar more than we did with frosting, and they were always delicious.

Ingredients
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup canned milk (evaporated coconut milk works great, regular canned coconut milk may work as well)
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp baking soda
4 tsp baking powder
4 ½ cups flour
½ tsp salt
optional: add 3/4 cup of nuts
Topping options
granulated sugar (add before you bake)
sesame seeds (add before you bake)
dairy-free frosting and add sprinkles for fun (add after you bake and cookies have cooled)
Instructions
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time. Add milk and vanilla and beat the batter. Sift dry ingredients together and add to the creamed mix. Roll on the floured surface reasonably thick. Cut with a cookie cutter; place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 18 minutes. Cookies should be large, soft, and thick.
