I made a couple of adjustments to the recipe to make it dairy-free. It turned out delicious.
Ingredients

List ingredients
9 cups of any variety of Chex (Chocolate Chex and Rice Chex work great)
1 cup of dairy-free semi-sweet chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 dairy-free butter
1/2 cup of nut butter (typically peanut butter, but I've tried almond butter, and I think cashew butter would be great).
I 1/2 cup of powdered sugar (plus more if needed)
Optional: 1/4 tsp of a flavored extract such as mint, orange, raspberry, etc.
Optional add-ons:
add dairy-free candies or crumbled cookies of your choice (for example Oreos)
add freeze-dried or dehydrated fruits such as banana chips
add nuts
Instructions
Add 9 cups Chex to a large bowl and set aside.
Add the chocolate chips, nut butter, and butter in a small pot. Stir.
Once it's smooth, add the vanilla. Optional: Add additional extract flavor at this point as well. You can also use a microwave for cooking for 1 minute (or a little longer) on high until it's melted and smooth.
Pour the mixture over the Chex until the cereal is coated.
Pour the cereal into a resealable food-storage plastic bag.
Add powdered sugar. Seal the bag; shake until well coated. Optional: add candies, cookies, etc. into the bag and shake it again; it won't coat the add-ons but be mixed in well.
Let it cool. Serve or store in a plastic bag or another container. It can be stored in the fridge or freezer.
